The Cairns ‘Bartercard’ Marlins may face their biggest test of 2008 when they meet Team Hoop Dreaming in the Hoop Dreaming Basketball Blitz on Friday, June 27.
The Hoop Dreaming Basketball Blitz is a free community event hosted by Cairns Basketball as part of the Hoop Dreaming Project.
Hoop Dreaming Project Director Joel Khalu said, “The main focus of the event is to provide a free opportunity for the community to experience high-level Basketball.”
“We have teamed up some of our finest local talent with many of the country’s premier athletes for the exhibition game. National Basketball League players Michael Cedar & Luke Martin will suit up for Team Hoop Dreaming, along with Women’s National Basketball League star and Australian Opals Squad Member Renae Camino.”
Others joining Cedar, Martin & Camino in Team Hoop Dreaming include, Kerry Williams, Rowan Gray and former Kuiyam Pride Captain Francis Loban. Bulleen Boomers WNBL Player and former Cairns Dolphins star Naomi Pedro will also unite with the team who will be coached by Cairns Taipans players Aaron Grabau & Gary Boodnikoff.
Cairns Taipans Head Coach Alan Black will also be in action, suiting up to play with the Marlins who will be coached by Cairns Taipans players Dwayne Vale and Martin Cattalini. Last year’s QABL Women’s Most Valuable Player Jade Kennedy, who is currently playing college basketball with the University of Wyoming in the United States, will also be a special guest on the Cairns Marlins playing roster.
“It will truly be a great night of entertainment for the whole family. Along with the exhibition Basketball game there will be dance performances, prize give-aways and an autograph session with all the players,” Khalu said.
